The statement issued by the Iraqi Council of Representatives has announced that the council doesn’t approve of Turkey’s military presence in Mosul’s Bashiqa.
Resolution by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to extend Turkish Armed Forces’ (TSK) stay in Iraq is not recognized, the statement stressed.
Erdoğan’s statement to be condemned
The parliament’s decision involves:
- Designating Turkey’s forces as “invasive forces” and doing what is necessary to take Turkey out of the Iraqi lands,
- Taking legal actions against the ones who demand that Turkey’s forces enter Iraq,
- Reconsidering commercial and economic ties with Turkey,
- Condemning statements of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,
- Applying to the United Nations Security Council and UN to have Turkey out of the country.
FM: We urge Iraq to hold our hand of friendship
Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Iraq’s decision and said “We strongly protest the section including gross accusations against our president and find it unacceptable”.
“There has never been a threat posed from Turkey to Iraq. The subject in question, TBMM’s resolution, is not a new disposal. It was first passed in 2007 against threat of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) terror organization arising from northern Iraq. With the emerge of DEAŞ [ISIS] terror organization, it has been expanded in a way to involve this organization and Syria.
“We urge Iraq to put away its interests directed at post-DEAŞ period and to hold our hand of friendship and aid for the sake of wellbeing of our region”. (AS/TK)
