Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov has come together with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Sochi.
Lavrov has held a meeting with Çavuşoğlu exceeding 30 minutes in Russia’s Sochi where Çavuşoğlu visited within the scope of Black Sea Economic Cooperation 34th Council of Ministers.
As both sides stated that the meeting went positive, expressed the pleasure they had over normalized relations.
Lavrov: I am pleased to come together
Sputnik News reported that Lavrov expresses he was pleased with coming together with Çavuşoğlu after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s sending letter to Russian Leader Vladimir Putin.
Lavrov briefly said the following:
“We’ve underlined the necessity of putting an end to terrorists’ using Turkey’s soil. We hope we will put it into practice.
“Citizens of Russia should take security status of Turkey into consideration while choosing this country as their tourism address.
“There is no major divergence between Russia and Turkey in terms of which groups are terrorists in Syria”.
Çavuşoğlu: Putin-Erdoğan to meet in August
Çavuşoğlu expressed that they handled the matters of economy, trade, energy and bilateral ties at the meeting and it was fruitful.
Stating that Turkey and Russia should collaborate for political solution in Syria, Çavuşoğlu said Putin and Erdoğan might meet in Sochi in August and added:
“Fixing the relations with Russia and Israel is beneficiary to the region as well.
“Turkey sees ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and al-Nusra as terror organizations. Ankara fights directly ISIS, that is why [Turkey] becomes a target for the terrorists.
“We have different opinions on whether Assad should stay. It might be hard to say now that we are of the same opinion but we should be able to discuss even different opinion openly and honestly.
“There is no difference between PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and YPG (People’s Protection Units) for us. The attacks launched in Ankara were carried out by the YPG, we have no doubt of it. We will share it with Russia”. (EKN/TK)
