Russia has responded to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s sending letter to Russian Leader, Vladimir Putin on June 12 Russian Day.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that Erdoğan’s letter is of one sent due to protocol which is practiced on such national days.
Peskov noting it is not necessary to reply to such letters said, “Unfortunately there was no section in the letter requiring any response”.
“Hostile attitudes of Turkish side have damaged the ties”
“Putin many times expressed that we would like to have good relations with Turkey.
“We value the period in which our relation with Turkey was literally in partnership and developing in all fields.
“Thus, we feel sad that this rich experience in the ties has been destroyed because of hostile attitudes of Turkish side”.
“Relations will not normalize unless Ankara takes certain steps”
“We also would like our relations to return to normal and go back to times when we were cooperating in mutual benefit.
“However, following the shooting down of our jet, it is not possible that the relations could normalize unless Ankara takes certain steps”.
Peskov listed their expectation with regard to “certain steps” as official apology and material compensation. (EKN/TK)
