The US soldiers’ wearing People’s Protection Units (YPG) crest in Syria has become a subject of tension between the US and Turkey.
It was seen that US soldiers were wearing YPG crest in a photo taken during the operations conducted against ISIS by Syrian Democratic Forces.
Cook: For safety
Pentagon Spokesperson Peter Cook expressing in his press statement that US forces are in the region to counsel Syrian Democratic Forces and not engaging in armed conflict, has said “Special security forces may blend in with the local forces as they join the operations in order to ensure their own safety”.
Çavuşoğlu: We’ve expressed our reaction
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu present in Antalya for the UN The Least Developed Countries Meeting upon this statement has said, “It is unacceptable that the soldiers of our ally, the US which is assertive about fighting terror, wear YPG crest”.
Çavuşoğlu noted that they expressed their reaction via US Embassy in Ankara and Turkish Embassy in Wahsington.
Çavuşoğlu added that Barack Obama and John Kerry told him on the phone that YPG and PYD (Democratic Union Party) are not reliable and what the US doing now is “double standard” and “hypocrisy”. (HK/TK)
