Turkey’s consulate premises in Mosul has been bombed by International Coalition of Fight Against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) jets.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the premises was hit by Turkey’s approval.
It was ISIS headquarters
Aerial operation on Turkey’s consulate in Mosul took place at 3 a.m. this morning (April 4). It was announced that the consulate premise is being used as headquarters for ISIS for a long time.
The ministry in its statement briefed that the premise, which has been under control of ISIS since June 2014, has been hit by coalition forces by approval of Turkey.
Land operation announcement from Iraq
Iraqi Representatives Assembly Defense and Security Council member, Abdülaziz Hüseyin in his statement he made on March 10 had said, “Special preparations have been made in areas of militaristic and intelligence to retrieve Mosul from terror organization ISIS”.
Hüseyin expressing that they are doing everything they can to prevent civilians from being harmed, noted that the international coalition forces play the biggest part in taking back the city.
Refugees are in Mahmur
As the operation launched by Iraqi army to take Mosul back from ISIS, part of the refugees fleeing have sheltered in Mahmur camp.
After the operation started, the number of civilians escaping from the conflict zone and taking shelter in Kurdish forces’ fronts has risen to 2,000.
ISIS had seized Mosul two years ago. It was declared that at least four villages have been saved from the organization so far.
What had happened?
ISIS had raided Mosul Consulate General on June 11, 2014.
In the raid conducted by over 900 ISIS militants on the consulate building guarded by special operation forces, 49 people including Turkey’s then Mosul Ambassador, Öztürk Yılmaz had been taken hostage.
After the protracted negotiations, the 49 consulate personnel had been released by ISIS on September 20, 2014. (AS/TK)
