Police Stop Refugees Walking from İstanbul to Edirne

Trying to reach Europe and waiting in İstanbul Esenler Bus Terminal, Syrian refugees started walk on TEM highway towards Edirne province (a province along the Grece and Bulgaria border.of Turkey) last night. This afternoon, riot policemen stopped the refugees and intervened in.

According to news of CNN Türk, three activists and a refugee were detained.

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Vice President Sezgin Tanrıkulu and CHP deputy Mustafa Balbay went to the scene.

Police didn’t allow the journalists to enter there.

Refugees started to walk at midnight 

Last night, the refugees started to walk towards Edirne province by foot and spent the night by the wayside. After the break,100 refugees continued to march.

Some people riding their cars picked up the refugees from the highway to take them to Edirne.

More than a thousand Syrian refugees are waiting in the squares and parks of Edirne province for the European border gate to be opened.

“I request you to stop the marching until Monday evening since you made yourselves heard. Please return to normal,” said Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu to the representatives of Syrian refugees in Turkey. (ÇT/BD)
