April 24 in Yerevan Through Photos

On the 99th anniversary of Armenian Genocide, thousands of people arrived to the Armenian Genocide Monument early in the morning to remember genocide victims. 

There were lots of people coming from different paths all day, so we can’t provide an exact number.

In front of the monument was unbelievably crowded. People from every age climbed to remember their loved ones. This showed us that the memory of the genocide is still fresh. 

Songs on genocide accompanied us all the way through the road to the monument.

Flowers were lying under the statues and the monument and around the fire which never died down all day. 

When I was walking to the monument, a woman named Mari gave me her own rose because I forgot to buy flowers. After that, she wanted to take a photo with the stranger, me, who came from Turkey.

Many people from Diaspora were there for April 24. Flags of the countries where Diaspora Armenians live were carried.

There weren’t any slogans or loud speaking around the monument. There was justice request on the banners that were carried. (EA/ENÜ/BM)
