Turkey Votes In Favor of Regulations at WCIT

Last night, an unexpected vote occurred at WCIT on a resolution for greater regulatory control over Internet governance.

"We will vote in favor of the resolution," said the Turkish delegates prior to voting last night.

Osman Coşkunoğlu, a telecommunications expert and opposition deputy, said on twitter that only countries with a low democracy profile like Turkey voted in favor of the resolution.

In Dubai, world's leading countries and corporations have discussed behind closed doors on who's going to be the future decision-makers of internet.

The draft resolution would enable governments to make broader interventions on internet proxies, a proposition backed by countries like China, UAE and Russia. Western counties including US strongly contested the resolution. Closed doors meetings were protested by several groups with Google launching an anti-regulation campaign. (EA)
