Five students in Dersim have been dismissed from dormitories and stripped of scholarships and loans after they staged a protest for their friend Gülistan Doku, who has been missing since January 5.
The city's security directorate informed the provincial directorate of the Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution Dormitories (KYK) about the demonstrations on January 12-14 and asked it to expel the students, the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reported.
The students were also accused of damaging the dormitory building, disrupting the peace at the dorm and work of the dorm administration.
While four of the students graduated this year, their scholarships and loans were canceled in early June following an investigation against them.

Hivda Tekkaynar, one of the students, said they were accused of starting the protests, which she refused. They attended a protest that was held by "the whole dormitory," she said, adding that she is out of money and has no place to stay now.
"We even held a march. After all, a friend of ours is missing, we wonder what happened. Gülistan Doku was also a student and our friend. They don't even let us raise our voice for her," said Tekkaynar. "The same things happen at the university as well. Officials' eyes are always on us."
She noted that the dorm's employees supported them in the protests and told them that they were expelled because of the request by the security directorate. (TP/VK)
