Police intervened in a group who gathered to hold a demonstration organized by Ankara Women’s Platform for March 8 International Women’s Day in front of Çankaya Municipality building yesterday (March 4).
Stating that Ankara Governorship doesn’t allow the demonstration due to State of Emergency, police used pepper gas against the women.
Police detained 18 women. The detainees were fined under the Law of Misdemeanor and then released.
Evrensel daily reported that following the detentions, police shouted at women “Leave this place immediately, don’t wander around here”.
According to a news report by Mezopotamya Agency, the agency’s correspondent Diren Yurtsever was detained as well during news coverage. (EKN/TK)
