The Justice, Equality, Woman Summit will be held in İstanbul on November 30-December 1.
Ahead of the summit, the organization committee headed by Gülseren Onanç came together with journalists today (November 7).
Stressing that there has been a regression in women's vested rights in both Turkey and across the world, Onanç expressed that the underlying reason of this regression will be discussed with the active participation of the people.
Prof. Dr. Fatmagül Berktay said that what lies behind this regression is the "masculine crisis in the face of vested rights" and added, "Men are trying to compensate for this crisis by means of imposing violence on women, trying to seize women's rights and not following laws".
Berktay also said that another problem in Turkey is the debasement of the concept of equality:
"In Turkey, the concept of justice is brought into existence to replace equality. Equality is introduced as it means 'sameness'. The thing is, women advocate an understanding of equality that approves of and includes difference. Nobody wants to be the same with men, why would they?"
Republican People's Party (CHP) Women's Branch Chair Fatma Köse said that women from different parties and opinions will gather in the summit and added that "Political views comes secondary in this meeting. It is important that we depart from women's sensitivity".
Among the participants are figures such as journalists Nevşin Mengü, Şirin Payzın, Ayşe Arman, CHP Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Meral Danış Beştaş and Federation of Women's Associations of Turkey Chair Canan Güllü.
