The journalism workshop will be organized as a part of the “Gender-Based Journalism Project” in Turkey’s southeastern province of Mardin on November 18, 2017.
The project is run by International Press Service (IPS) Communication Foundation and supported by KAOS GL, and has been continuing for two years.
bianet invites local journalists from neighboring provinces and districts, faculty of communication students and rights defenders working on the subject.
As bianet, we would like to speak about and discuss masculine journalism practices in media, the issues and the ways to deal with it as well as how we can practice gender-based journalism.
In line with the project, we held journalism workshops in İstanbul, Mersin, Bursa, İzmir, Eskişehir, Trabzon, Diyarbakır, Akyaka, Edirne and Dersim. We have evaluated the situation of media through a gender-based perspective with representatives of organizations and platforms working on women’s and LGBTI rights, journalists and faculty of communication students in the workshops. We considered the obstacles facing woman- and LGBTI-based journalism and its practicability.
