The 3 Women Statue
The 3 Women Statue was sculptured by Ordu Municipality in 2006. Being installed in Taşbaşı Neighborhood, the statue was influenced by Ordu’s local folk song “Tabya başında 3 kız yan yana” (3 girls are side by side by the bastion).
The statues that were deformed due to damage inflicted by the citizens was taken under maintenance by sculptor Özgür Özmen in 2013.
One of the statues, which were put into their place after 2 months of repair, was attacked in November 2016. Its head was broken and later put into place following a repair.
“The statues are in contrary with our moral sensitivity”
In 2012, the International Stone Statue Symposium was organized by the Ordu Municipality. 12 statues made by eight sculptors were exhibited in the city center, at streets and parks.
Ordu Mayor Enver Yılmaz from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) had the five women statues moved from streets and parks to the garden of Taşbaşı Cultural Center (Taşbaşı Church).
“Considering our society’s general custom and our moral sensitivity, we planned to move them another place”, Yılmaz had said. (TP/EKN/TK)
