According to reports that bianet compiled from national and local newspapers, news sites and agencies, men killed 21 women and two girls in November, raped seven women, forced 37 women to sex work, sexually harassed nine women, inflicted violence on 32 women, sexually abused 35 girls.
Men killed over 241 women in the first 11 months in 2016, raped 72 women, harassed 111 women, sexually abused 387 girls, inflicted violence on 314 women.
Femicide
Men killed 21 women and two girls in November.
14% of the women were killed for seeking divorce and 14% of the women were killed by the husbands they divorced. Stabbing his ex-wife and her mother death, a man said “I’ve restored my honor. They say there is women rights, there is no such thing as women rights”.
Following the end of his restraining order, a man killed his wife and two children by slitting their throats.
81% of the women were killed by their partners or ex partners. 11 women were killed by their husband of official marriage, one by her husband of religious marriage, two by their lover, three by their ex-husband, one by her ex son-in-law, one by her son, one by her step son, one by a thief breaking into her house.
One of the killed women was forced to marry at an early age, she left the home number of times but returned to house upon her parents’ insistences and was killed aged 22.
Men killed three women by choking, two by cutting their throat, one by throwing her from high, one by burning her, six by stabbing them, six by pistol, one by beating, one by bearing with an object.
The cities in which femicide took place are Adana (2), Afyon (1), Antalya (1), Antep (2), Balıkesir (2), Elazığ (1), Eskişehir (1), İstanbul (3), İzmir (1), Kayseri (1), Konya (3), Muğla (1), Ordu (1) and Urfa (1).
Rape
Seven rape incidents were covered by media in November.
One woman was raped by her lover, one by her elder brother, one by a manager whom she met for an employment interviewing, four by men they didn’t know.
A man who raped his lover was lynched death on the street by woman’s relatives in Erzurum.
One of the rape incidents took place in an elevator, three at women’s house, one in the house where she was seized and one on the street. The whereabouts of the other incident wasn’t covered by media.
The cities in which rape incidents took place are Ankara (1), Aydın (1), Edirne (1), Erzurum (1), İstanbul (2) and Kocaeli (1).
Forcing to sex work
Men forced 37 women to sex work in November. Only one of the women was citizen of Republic of Turkey.
Harassment
Men harassed nine women in November.
44% of the harassers were known by the women: One woman was harassed by her ex-lover, one by her neighbor, one by her lover, one by a man whom she met on social media, five by men they didn’t know.
Two women killed the women on self-defense while the men were harassing or threatening them. One of the two women arrested was victim of systemtatic harassment and had changed her address three times to get rid of the harassment.
Seven women were subjected to physical, one was subjected to digital and one was subjected to verbal harassment.
Only two women were arrested in nine harassment cases. One of the perpetrators arrested was a Syrian refugee.
Two of the harassment incidents took place on the street, one in a bus, one in a bar, one at a house, one in a vehicle in which the woman was gotten in by force and one on social media. Whereabouts of two the two incidents didn’t take place on the media.
The cities in which harassment cases took place are Amasya (1), Edirne (1), Hatay (1), İstanbul (2), İzmir (1), Kırklareli (1), Mersin (1) and Osmaniye (1).
Child abuse
Men sexually harassed 35 girls in November.
60% of the harassment cases took place at schools: 21 girls were subjected to sexual abuse at school, one in a bus, three on the street and four at home. Whereabouts of the five incidents weren’t covered by media.
34% of the girls were abused by their teacher or other school staff and 14% by their male relatives: Seven children were sexually abused by their teachers, two by school principals, three by school staff, nine by other students at school, one by her elder brother, one by her relatives, one by her father, two by their step-fathers, five by men they didn’t know. Perpetrators of the five incidents didn’t take place in media.
15 perpetrators were arrested, 14 perpetrators were released. Only one of the three teachers abusing seven girls was arrested, one was released on probation and the other was only suspended.

Violence-injury
Men injured/inflicted violence on 32 women in November and killed five men (their father, lover, co-worker etc.) near them.
31% of the violence cases took place in public places such as in the middle of the street, bank or tube.
12.5% of the women were subjected to violence for seeking divorce.
37.5% of violence-injury incidents took place by methods that could be resulted by death. Four women were injured by rifle, five by knife, two by pistol and 20 by being beaten. One woman was tortured. Two women were subjected to violence despite protection order.
59% of the women were subjected to violence by their partners or ex-partners: One woman was subjected to violence by her elder brother, one by her relative, one by her father, one by her son-in-law, one by her ex-husband, one by her ex-fiancée, two by their ex-lovers, one by a man who was beating his wife in the middle of the street, one by her husband of religious marriage, 12 by their husbands of official marriage, two by their neighbors, three by their sons, two by their lovers, one by a man she didn’t know. Identity of two aggressors didn’t take place in the media.
One of the men injuring women committed suicide and another one attempted suicide.
The cities in which male violence took place are Adana (2), Adıyaman (1), Aksaray (4), Ankara (1), Antalya (2), Bolu (2), Bursa (1), Diyarbakır (1), Düzce (1), İstanbul (4), İzmir (1), Kayseri (1), Kocaeli (1), Kütahya (1), Manisa (2), Muğla (1), Nevşehir (1), Ordu (1), Osmaniye (1) and Samsun (3).
Distribution by regions
In total 141 male violence, femicide, murder, attempted murder, harassment, sexual violence, rape, forcing to sex work and injury cases were covered by media in November.
Of all violence incidents, 32% took place in Mediterranean Region, 23% in Marmara Region, 16% in Central Anatolia Region, 11% in Aegean Region, 11% in Black Sea Region, 5% in Southeastern Anatolia Region, 1% in Eastern Anatolia Region. (ÇT/TK)
