Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has spoken for the first time about the attack of a woman by a man for “wearing shorts”.
Speaking to Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan, Yıldırım said the attacker was “not normal”. He added that if the situation had bothered the man, he could have “muttered to himself” instead.
“If one looks at this man’s past record, it emerges that he has a medical problem. There is something odd in his condition and his behavior.”
Commenting on the initial release followed by the rearrest of the attacker, Prime Minister Yıldırım said there was a problem in the justice system, and that judicial verdicts were made according to the law, not to public opinion.
“Later you correct it but it doesn’t eliminate the damage.”
The PM also said that Turkey faced more pressing problems than concerns over lifestyle.
“In Turkey, if you were to make a list, concerns over lifestyles come in 15th place. It has nothing to do with the reality of Turkey. … People’s priorities are the problems of terror, the economy, unemployment, and income distribution.” (ÇT/PS)
