Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has told that women giving birth “performed also their civic duties”.
Mainly jokes on social media have constituted the greater part of the reactions to Davutoğlu’s statement such as “paid military service corresponded to caesarean delivery and not giving birth corresponded to conscientious objection”.
Making a speech in Justice and Development Party (AKP) Provincial President’s Meeting, Prime Minister Davutoğu has made a statement regarding the omnibus bill including also amendments on Income Tax Law and regulations for public servants and workers giving birth. The bill introduces flexible and part time work alternatives for women instead of the right to kindergarten.
The aforementioned remark in PM Davutoğlu’s statement has been as follows:
“For us, a woman giving birth fulfills her sacred motherhood duties as well as her civic duties. The services of our women giving birth is like performing a civic duty, therefore birth duration will be counted to their civil service”. (ÇT/DG)
