Turkey drown back to 130th rank on gender equality

Equality warning on EU Progress Report
European Union’s “Turkey Progress Report 2015” states that gender-based violence, discrimination, hate speech against minorities and LGBTI-Rights are main issues of concern in Turkey.
November 1 election: Only male representatives nominated in 43 provinces
Female representative’s rate has dropped within all political parties from June 7 to November 1. In the 26th term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), 14,9% of MPs are women and 85.1% are men. There are no female MPs in 43 provinces.
16 MPs signing the LGBTI Rights convention in the parliament
16 MP candidates who have signed the “LGBTI Rights Convention” within the campaign “LGBTI in the Parliament” launched under the leadership of Association for Social Policies, Gender Identities and Sexual Orientation Studies (SPoD) and LGBTI and supported by LGBTI activists from all over Turkey, have been nominated as have been delegated.
New council of ministers formed: 25 men, 2 women
In the 26th legislative term, two of 27 council members are women and 25 are men. The two women in the council are Sema Ramazanoğlu; MP of Family and Social Policies and Fatma Güldemet Sarı, MP of Environment and Urban Planning.
In the 26th Term the first women group meeting held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM)
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has held its first group meeting in the 26th term of the assembly as a women group meeting. Only women MPs and guests have attended the meeting due to November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
