Justice and Development Party (AKP) Group Deputy Chair and Kayseri MP Mustafa Elitaş made statements to journalists yesterday (July 2).
Stating that they believe the State of Emergency (OHAL) will be lifted on July 18, 2018, the second year of OHAL, Elitaş said that the first law drafts to be discussed after the opening of parliament will be “punishments concerning child harassers and those who imposed violence on animals”.
“President will not send a resolution to extend the OHAL”
Answering to the question on whether OHAL will be lifted, Elitaş said, “Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) doesn’t have authority to extend the OHAL in case the new government doesn’t send a resolution on July 18 under normal circumstances”.
“If President sends such a resolution, TBMM discusses it with National Security Council’s recommendation and gives its opinion.
“The impression I gained is that Mr. President will not send such a resolution. Thus, we believe the OHAL will have been lifted as of July 18”. (AS/TK)
