Gathering in front of the house where Syrian refugees live in Sivas, inhabitants of the neighborhood attempted assault and asked the refugees to leave the house. Police dispersed the crowd, promising them that "the house would be vacated".
The media covered the incident as "Syrian tension" and the attacking crowd was depicted as an "angry crowd".
The last mass assault against refugees took place in Karapınar district in Konya province. The pretext of the assault was an individual harassment allegation, yet, the assault was launched against all Syrians. For the events in Sivas, the pretext of the assault was that "the Syrians dress inappropriately" and "they beat a child".
The police that arrived at the scene blockaded the Syrians' house. Complaining about the Syrians, the Sivas residents told police that "the Syrians came to the house with a few people but the number reached up to 40 in time, and they 'display immoral behavior".
The Sivas residents asked the Syrians to leave the house. The house owner also went to the scene and asked the renters to evacuate the house. The crowd left the scene after the police promised them that "the Syrian will leave the house". (AS/TK/LN)
