Turkey leg of the meeting held as part of a joint project initiated by the Turkish Authors’ Association (TYB) and Antares Publishing House was organized in Taksim Hilton Hotel in İstanbul yesterday (February 22).
The publishers from Armenia and Turkey came together during the full-day meeting. Portfolios were shared and common solutions were discussed.
Celal: Our goal is to increase cooperation
TYB President Metin Celal spoke to bianet about the project:
“With the support of Hrant Dink Foundation’s Travel Funding called ‘We Cross the Borders’, TYB Board members Fahri Aral, me and Sibel Alay went to Yerevan in 2014. We visited publishers, Publishers Association, Booksellers Association and libraries.
“This idea came up during those visits. We planned to develop our relations; our cultures are similar and we considered developing this in our books as well and that we’ve taken this step.
“Our goal is to increase cooperation between the two countries and the number of translations”.
Madoyan: We hope to continue the cooperation
Speaking in the meeting, one of the project partners Hripsime Madoyan from Antares Publishing House said; “We are very glad to be acting together with the Turkish Authors’ Association” and went on:
“We’ve been neighboring countries for a long time. We have to have detailed information about each other. Literature has neither limits nor closed doors.
“It was not easy to pick the publishing houses that could join this program.
“This project might help us know and understand each other better. In future, it may enable us to act together. This project aims to have us meet new people and form occupational collaborations. I hope these relations continue”. (EA/TK)
