The Supporting Wheat Ecological Life Association has launched a website for their Seed Exchange Network, www.tohumtakas.org on which ancestry seeds can be exchanged.
With the help of the Seed Exchange Network database, anyone will be able to swap their ancestry seeds and demand small amounts of ancestry seeds in return.
Hundreds of seeds are endangered because of market conditions, small scale producers’ inability to find a place in the market, and the fact that domestic seeds cannot be used in products coming from large-scale production and distribution chains.
What are ancestry seeds?
As reflected in their name, ancestry seeds are the cleanest and healthiest seeds, which have survived harsh conditions over dozens of years in Anatolia.
Genetically unmodified, the seeds are required for natural and agricultural bio-diversity since they are produced and preserved through natural practices. Of all the seeds in Turkey, only 1-3% are currently native to the country. For all these reasons, the ancestry seeds need to be protected and popularized. (NV/TK)
