Directorate of Religious Affairs has removed the Religious Concepts Dictionary from its official website over criticism regarding the definitions of some terms.
The definitions of the terms adolescence and spousal in the dictionary had stirred criticism among people. Directorate of Religious Affairs explained in its dictionary, that children who enter puberty could get married and that girls entered puberty at the age of 9.
There were some protests in the social media against the Directorate of Religious Affair and Republican People's Party (CHP) had filed a criminal complaint regarding the dictionary.
Upon reactions in the social media, Directorate of Religious Affairs issued a written statement on the issue and said that "the claims that the directorate explained that girls could get married at an early age were groundless".
Directorate of Religious Affairs removed the Religious Concepts Dictionary completely from its website yesterday (December 4). The website of the dictionary forwards the users to the homepage of the directorate. (ÇT/DG)
