Following the gun attack killing 39 people in Reina nightclub in Ortaköy during the new year celebrations, Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) has filed a criminal complaint against social media messages which praised the attack.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Deputy Müslüm Doğan also has submitted a parliamentary inquiry regarding those who insult the victims of the attack or praised the attack.
According to the written statement of the TBB, the petition submitted to Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested to launch an investigation into the respective posts on social media on charges of "Praising the crime, the criminal and to insulting the memory of the individual" and to file a criminal case against those.
The criminal complaint requested also to launch an investigation into Şişli District Director of National Education who had banned the new year celebration on charge of "malpractice". (YY/DG)
