Inflation on Monthly Basis Falls for First Time Since 2017: 1.44 Percent

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the consumer and producer inflation figures for November 2018 today (December 3).

Accordingly, in November, the Consumer Price Index (TÜFE) has decreased by 1.44 percent in comparison with October 2018; increased by 20.79 percent in comparison with December 2017; increased by 21.62 percent in comparison with November 2017; and increased by 15.63 percent when compared with the 12-month averages.

As for the Producer Price Index (ÜFE) in November 2018, it has decreased by 2.53 percent in comparison with October 2018; increased by 36.68 percent in comparison with December 2017; increased by 38.54 in comparison with November 2017; and increased by 25.52 percent when compared with the 12-month averages.

The yearly producer inflation has been announced as 25.52 percent.

Highest increase in clothing and shoes

While the highest increase in the monthly consumer inflation has been measured in clothing and shoes with 2.37 percent, the highest decrease has been measured in transportation with 6.46 percent.

As for the highest increase in the yearly consumer inflation, it has been measured in the prices of household goods with 32.73 percent.

What was the expectation of the markets?

Participating in the expectation survey of the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) Finance, economists anticipated that the Producer Price Index (TÜFE) would fall by 0.64 percent in November. While the lowest figure anticipated by an economist in the survey was a decrease by 1.10 percent, the highest expectation was an increase by 0.25 percent. (HA/SD)
