3 More Miners Die on Miners Day

Going to the coal pit that was closed in October, miners fell in a pit filled with water. The miners who lost their lives on the International Miners Day will be interred today.

As the International Miners Day was celebrated in various countries, three miners falling in a pit filled with water lost their lives in Turkey’s southeastern province of Şırnak yesterday (December 4).

The incident took place at a coal pit that was closed down situated in Balveren Town at around 12 p.m. According to the allegations, Abdurrahman and Ömer Tunç brothers, and İdris İnal came to the coal pit to get their tools.

The activity of the coal pit was halted following landslide killing eight workers.

Şırnak Governor Mehmet Aktaş informed that Abdurrahman Tunç, Ömer Tunç and İdris İnal fell in a big pit filled with water.

Bodies were found after six hours

As the efforts of AFAD (Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), and fire squad teams didn’t help, underwater search and rescue teams were called for help. Searches continued as the units coming by helicopters were awaited.

Two of the three workers’ lifeless bodies were taken out of the water at 4:30 p.m. following search of six hours. Their bodies were taken to Şırnak State Hospital’s morgue without being shown to their beloved ones. (PT/TK)
