Suspect Charged With Aiding ISIS Released

Burhan Gök; the perpetrator of the bomb attack in Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally in Diyarbakır killing five people on June 5, 2015 was released in the hearing held yesterday (July 25) before Ankara 2nd High Criminal Court.

Speaking to bianet, Özgür Erol, one of the attorneys in the trial stated that Burhan Gök who had been caught in the act charged with "providing passage to the ISIS camp in Syria for ISIS-members" and "border control" has been released as he was not a flight risk and added:

"While others are being arrested even for their postings on social media, no probational action has been taken against Gök such as giving signature or electronic bracelet".

HDP's attorneys lodged an appeal against Gök's release demanding Gök be arrested again or be "subjected to probation to prevent him from fleeing as there was various evidence pointing to the attack and his connection with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria".

Captured in ISIS investigation in Antep

An investigation was launched into ISIS in 2015 in Antep province.

Burhan Gök and Mustafa Kılınç were captured in an operation carried out by Antep Security Directorate as a part of the ISIS investigation together with three other people who were not citizens of Turkey claimed to cross the border and arrive the camps of ISIS.

Case referred to Diyarbakır following bomb attack

Following the bomb attack in the HDP rally in Diyarbakır, Antep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had passed a decision of rejection of venue and referred the case to Diyarbakır stating that the "major operation area and organization of ISIS was in Antep".
Caught together with Perpetrator of Brussels attack

Gök wastogether with Al-Abqraoui as he was caught. He was accused of trying make Al-Abqraoui get to the ISIS camp in Syria.

Al-Abqraoui was deported after being caught and went to Brussels. On March 22, 2016, he detonated a bomb he had tied to his body in Zaventem airport in Brussels. His brother Halid Al-Abqraoui had also detonated a bomb tied to his body in the subway in Brussels.

ISIS claimed responsibility for both attacks in which 31 people lost their lives and at least 260 others were injured.

In the attack on June 5, 2015 in a rally of HDP in Diyarbakır in which bombs placed in waste bins were detonated through a remote control, Ramazan Yıldız (16), Necati Kulur (47), Şehmuz Kaçan (34), Civan Arslan (17) and Ali Türkmen (65) had lost their lives. (AS/DG)
