Denktas: They Are Trying to Take Our State!
Denktas called on the postponement of the referendum on the Annan Plan, in his speech and said, The game of taking the state out of our hands, has started. We are struggling not to lose it. We did not lose it up-to-now and we will not lose it after now.
In an emotional speech at the Bar Association of Bursa, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) president Rauf Denktas said that "We are facing a big threat now. I plead to the Turkish government to make our derogations permanent. Otherwise, in 15 years, we shall be expelled from Cyprus."
He said that "My grand father had told me when Turkish troops first left the island that 'They will return.' They did return in 1960. But this time, if they go, there will be no return! I do not want to have this grief! " (YE)
