Former prime minister Binali Yıldırım announced yesterday (September 3) he and his spouse have contracted the novel coronavirus.
Yıldırım tweeted that he and his wife Semiha Yıldırım, due to a general feeling of discomfort, got tested at the Ankara City Hospital.
He said that although the results came positive, their condition is stable and the doctors have advised quarantine at home.
The lawmaker from the western İzmir province urged the citizens to comply with health guidelines set by the government.
Yıldırım, 64, served as the 27th prime minister of Turkey from 2016 to 2018 before the country adopted a presidential system following a public referendum.
He was also the speaker of the Grand National Assembly from 2018 to 2019 and was nominated for the İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in March 2019 local elections. (VK)
