President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appealed to the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and filed a criminal complaint against Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir Provincial Organization Vice Chair Yasin Ergül, CHP Youth Organizations' İzmir Secretary and Karabağlar Municipal Council member Dila Koyurga, CHP's Gaziemir Mayor Halil Arda, CHP İzmir Organization member Caner Gül and CHP İzmir Executive Board member Volkan Gürboğa.
Filing a complaint against five main opposition CHP members on behalf of President and ruling AKP Chair Erdoğan, attorney Ahmet Özel has indicated in his petition that they insulted a public official via the press. Özel has requested that an investigation be conducted against them as per the Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) and a public action be filed.
Following this complaint, a warrant has been issued against CHP Youth Organizations' İzmir Secretary and Karabağlar Municipal Council member Dila Koyurga. Koyurga has turned herself in to the İzmir Security Directorate. Taken into custody at the security directorate, she is expected to be referred to courthouse following her deposition.
Born in 1996, Dila Koyurga's social media posts in question were shared in 2013, when she was 17 years old. (HA/SD)
