Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his counterpart from Germany Heiko Maas organized a joint press last night (September 5) in capital Ankara.
Speaking at the conference, FM Çavuşoğlu said that they addressed “issues about economy and consulate, and especially about terrorism”. “We’ve gotten a chance to evaluate matters such as Syria and Idlib”.
Maas: We’re concerned of the development at the border
FM Maas briefly said:
“We have to be in close cooperation in many international subject. We have a strategical interest in forming our relation in a constructive way. We want to form a strategic dialogue mechanism to improve our ties with Turkey.
“We’ve addressed interntational matters as well. The situation in Syria is one of these. Turkey monitors the developments at the border with a great concern. We are concerned as well. We are talking about a region in which a humanitarian disaster may occur”.
Maas stated that their talks with Çavuşoğlu will continue.
"We are in effort to stop attacks on Idlib"
FM Çavuşoğlu spoke as follows about Idlib:
"We have making intense effort since the possibility of an attack on Idlib emerged. We are in effort to stop attacks on Idlib. In fact, that was one of the goals of the Astana process.
"With the agreement we signed in Astana, we determined four de-conflict zones. One of them was Idlib. Now it's obvious that the [Syrian] regime wants to attack and seize here. But the regime has guarantors, Russia and Iran.
"This is not the issue of only Turkey but the whole world. Everyone should maintain a solid stance". (AS/TK)
