The Governorship of Ankara made a statement yesterday (August 20) and announced that two people were detained in relation with the armed attack carried out against the US Embassy in the capital city of Ankara.
In the statement published on the official website of the governorship, it was stated that the two offenders admitted that they launched the attack together.
The governorship also indicated that the offenders carried out the attack with a 9-millimeter pistol from a vehicle with a license plate of Ankara.
They have previous criminal record
It has been reported that while one of the offenders has a criminal record on charge of involuntary bodily harm and was looked for by the police as a prison breaker, the other offender has a criminal record on a series of charges such as involuntary bodily harm, drugs, threat, auto theft, willful injury and endangering traffic safety.
Message of thanks by the US Embassy
The US Embassy shared a message of thanks on its official Twitter account shortly after the statement by the Ankara Governorship.
In the message, it was stated, "We thank the Turkish National Police and the Government of Turkey for their fast and professional action in apprehending two individuals who allegedly attacked our Mission this morning. We appreciate their support and protection."
What happened?
An armed attack was carried out against the US Embassy building in Ankara on August 20. Unidentified person or persons opened fire in the direction of the embassy from a vehicle en route on the Atatürk Boulevard.
While one of the bullets hit the security cabin in front of the embassy, no one was killed or injured in the incident. (TP/SD)
