Media occupational organizations have denounced Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli publishing names of people whom he claimed to have “defamed, accused wrongly” the MHP.
TGC: “We cannot talk about democracy“
In its statement, TGC said:
“The MHP published names of 59 journalists and writers whom MHP is not pleased with their news reports and comments on June 26, 2018. This attitude is unacceptable. We cannot talk about democracy in this country if political party representatives make list of journalists and writers whom they are not pleased with.
RSF: “This is very dangerous“
RSF Representative to Turkey Erol Önderoğlu made the following statement on Twitter:
“While there are more civilized methods, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli targeting journalist and writers, who criticized him and his party during election period, is very dangerous. We demand that this inappropriate attitude be abandoned“.
TGS: “He crossed the line“
TGS’s statement is as follows:
“Indeed, MHP leader Bahçeli has every right to respond to journalists and writers who criticize them. But accusing our colleagues of running a ‘defamation campaing’ is crossing the line. We are not afraid of those who target journalists by publishing a list of names“. (ŞA/TK)
