In his speech at Council of Ministers broadcast live in Greek TV channels, Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras has said, “We are not threatening anyone, but we are not afraid of anyone either. We call on our neighbors to desist with this escalation because it is pointless”.
“We call on Turkey to tone down the aggressive rhetoric of recent months. Ankara’s stance is related to domestic developments and geopolitical instability”.
“The two Greek soldiers should be released”
The prime minister stressed that the two only crossed a few meters into the country’s territory and added that Greece has repeatedly in the past allowed Turkish soldiers who made the same mistake to return to their country.
"Turkey has recently become more provocative and is exacerbating the situation on every front", the PM said.
According to Stelyo Berberakis from BBC, stressing that the two Greek soldiers “held unfairly in custody in Turkey”, Tsipras said, “Turkey should put aside its attacks and proceed to a gesture of good will with their release”. (PT/TK)
