EP to Vote Today: Withdraw from Afrin

In the draft joint resolution prepared by political groups in the European Parliament (EP) about the situation in Syria, it is stated that Turkey’s “Operation Olive Branch” launched into Afrin has “added a new dimension to the conflict in Syria, raising additional humanitarian concerns,” as well worries over its effect on the “delicate internal balances in Syria”.

“Focus on groups not designated terrorist organization by the UN”

The draft resolution stating that reports indicating civilian casualties in Afrin started to come, demands Turkey’s withdrawal from Afrin and that Turkey focus on defeating the groups designated as terrorist organization by the UN.

“The opening of new fronts in Syria is not in the interest of Turkey’s security,” the draft read.

SOHR: 10 civilians died in one day

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced that 10 civilians including four children were killed, 34 people wounded in heavy artillery shooting and airstrikes carried out on Afrin on Wednesday.

225 civilians 36 of whom were children were killed during Operation Olive Branch launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) in cooperation with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on January 20, the SOHR added.

There are as many as 300 thousand civilians in Afrin, according to the SOHR. (PT/TK)
