Kept in detention since February 13, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Co-chair Serpil Kemalbay has been released on probation following the prosecutor’s office’s questioning.
Many figures were detained in the operation launched against the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), HDP and its constituents ahead of HDP’s congress on February 11. There was a detention warrant for Kemalbay as well but Kemalbay had stated that he wasn’t served the notice.
In the statement issued at HDP Press bureau, it was stated that police raided Kemalbay’s home in İstanbul on February 13, and seized some computers and documents.
State-run Anadolu Agency had reported that the warrant was issued on the ground that “speeches promoting terrorism” were delivered in HDP’s 3rd Ordinary Grand Session.
What did Kemalbay say?
Speaking at the HDP Congress, Kemalbay said, “We will struggle to build a society in which people can co-exist with their beliefs and identities to advocate peace”.
“Afrin is a place as big as a district. There is no meaningful reason for this offensive carried out into Afrin. Those who put their signatures on these bombs are responsible for the killings of civilians. There is a strong resistance growing in Afrin. Why? Because if you wage war against peoples, you lose”.
