Conflicts have intensified in the east of Aziz in the military operation launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) with Free Syrian Army (FSA) into Afrin. The clashes between the FSA and People’s Protection Units (YPG) were recorded by the Doğan News Agency camera.
Concerning the land operation that started on Sunday, the TAF said, “15 points have been captured from the YPG, 17 trapped mine fields have been destroyed”. One soldier lost his life in the conflict that erupted in the southeast of Kilis/Gülbaba village.
UN Security Council discussed Afrin
Convening upon France’s request, the United Nations (UN) Security Council discussed the humanitarian crisis worsening in Syria.
The meeting in which report of United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator and the Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock was addressed, was held behind the closed doors.
Speaking to journalists following the meeting, permanent Representative of France to the United Nations François Delattre said, “I believe our call for moderation is shared in the session” and stated that “France minds Turkey’s security, territory and borders”.
The western countries are concerned about fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) might be affected by the campaign against the YPG. The council didn’t condemn Turkey nor called on Turkey to stop the operation.
US delegation came to Ankara
The delegation headed by US State Department Deputy Secretary from the US that is in Ankara to discuss Syria and judicial cooperation came to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The US delegation will hold meeting with the delegation headed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Ahmet Muhtar Gün from Turkey. The US delegation then will hold another meeting at the General Staff. (PT/TK)
