It has been announced that Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by Angela Merkel and the Social Democrats (SPD) led by Martin Schulz have “finally” agreed in a coalition draft document.
According to the information provide by sources close to the coalition talks, the parties agreed in principle to start coalition negotiations. Furthermore, a 28-page draft document that defines outline of the negotiations is prepared.
Special topic about relations with Turkey
A topic about Turkey has been opened as well in the draft document. Under this chapter, it was stated that neither new chapters will be opened nor previous ones will be closed in Turkey’s talks on accession to the European Union.
Following statement was included in the draft: “Turkey is an important ally and neighbor which we have multilateral relations. Since democracy, rule of law and human rights have retrogressed, neither new chapters will be opened nor previous ones will be closed in Turkey’s talks on accession to the European Union.
“There won’t be visa liberalization as long as Turkey doesn’t meet its obligations or an update in the customs union”. (PT/TK)
