In its meeting of 2018 budget, the European Union (EU) has decided to cut 105 million Euros in funds to Turkey due to the “political developments in Turkey”.
The European Parliament (EP), which advocates cut to Turkey, attended the meeting as well.
According to a report by Deutsche Welle, EP rapporteur for budget Siegfried Mureşan in his statement following the meeting said “Turkey has diverged from European standards” and expressed that 105 million Euros spared for Turkey will be cut from the EU budget.
It will be submitted to the approval of the EP
The decision taken by the Council of the European Union has to be approved by eh European Parliament.
The EP will discuss the subject in its general assembly to be held on November 30, 2017. All political groups within the EP support the financial cut to Turkey.
In the wake of EP’s approval, the budget will enter into effect after the budget for 2018 is signed. (AS/TK)
