Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Hopa District Chair, author and environment activist Cemil Aksu has been detained due to his social media posts.
Aksu was detained with his wife Nurcan Vayiç Aksu, the former Hopa Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Chair, in an operation launched against the ESP on October 19,
Aksu was released following his deposition. His wife Vayiç Aksu was kept in custody for four days and was arrested on October 24 due to her social media posts.
Going to Hopa Courthouse again to give deposition upon prosecutor’s office’s objection, Aksu was arrested on charge of “promoting crime and criminal” and sent to Artvin Closed Prison.
The detentions were protested in Hopa
İstanbul-based house raids were conducted against ESP members on October 19. 15 people among whom were journalists and lawyers were detained.
Nurcan Vayiç Aksu was detained simultaneously in a police operation in Hopa, Artvin.
A group attempted to issue a statement for the press to protest the detentions in Hopa. The police intervened in the group with pepper gas, detained 12.
Among the detainees, ESP member Efraim Vayiç was arrested on October 23.
Vayiç Aksu was arrested on October 24 on charges of “insulting Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu” and “propagandizing for a terror organization” and was sent to Artvin Closed Prison. (TP/TK)
