Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and United States (US) Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have spoken over the phone.
The two ministers evaluated Turkey and the US mutually suspending visa services.
Following the phone call, it was stated in the statement issued by the US State Department that Tillerson conveyed their concerns to Çavuşoğlu:
“Secretary Tillerson spoke today with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Secretary Tillerson conveyed to the Foreign Minister his profound concern over the detentions of Turkish national employees of our diplomatic mission to Turkey and of several American citizens.
“Secretary Tillerson emphasized the importance of transparency in the accusations made by the Turkish government and the need for the Turkish government to present the evidence behind these accusations.
“Secretary Tillerson and Foreign Minister Cavusoglu agreed the two sides would remain in close contact to address U.S. concerns about these detentions”.
A delegation will reportedly come to discuss a solution
According to a report by NTV, a delegation from the US State Department will come to Turkey in the upcoming week to discuss on a solution.
The delegation will be presided by State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Jonathan R. Cohen. (AS/TK)
