In a statement issued after the bairam prayer, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has responded to France's President Emmanuel Macron's comments about him.
Erdoğan said that he couldn't "quite understand" what Macron meant in his interview with Le Point magazine.
"The truth is, I am not in a position to decipher what he meant. That needs to be learned from Mr. Macron. There is only thing that I know; as long as they demand a meeting, I wouldn't like to refuse because I would like to increase our friends.
"I am also of the opinion that the words said in that interview are not negative but on the contrary, meeting with Turkey's President is something valuable for them".
The last meeting between Macron and Erdoğan was held on August 27. Calling Erdoğan on phone, Macron demanded that the French journalist Loup Bureau being detained in Turkey be released and sent to France. (HK/TK)
