İstanbul 15th Heavy Penal Court has rejected the appeal against arrest of CHP İstanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu, who was arrested in case concerning reports on MİT (National Intelligence Agency) Trucks.
Berberoğlu was sentenced to 25 years in prison over “espionage” on June 14.
Berberoğlu’s attorney Murat Ergün who had filed the objection demanded release of Berberoğlu.
What happened?
An indictment was prepared against Berberoğlu on charges of “obtaining state’s confidential documents for militaristic and political purposes” and “Willingly and deliberately aiding FETÖ-PDY (Fethullahist Terror Organization - Parallel State Structure)” demanding up to 30 years in prison.
Journalists Erdem Gül and Can Dündar’s cases in which they are charged with “Willingly and deliberately aiding an armed terror organization though not being a member of it” were combined on September 21, 2016.
Berberoğlu was sentenced to life time imprisonment over “espionage” on June 14, 2017, and that the sentenced was reduced to 25 years in prison.
