President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be a Justice and Development Party (AKP) member on May 2. AKP Extraordinary Session will be held on May 21.
Erdoğan announced that he would join the AKP following the referendum. In a statement in Antalya, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım declared that Erdoğan will join the AKP on May 2 and the party will organize the Extraordinary Session on May 21.
A great majority of the 18-article constitutional amendment package will be put into effect through the general and presidential elections that will be hold simultaneously on November 3, 2019.
However, three articles of the package can be put into effect immediately. Those articles are the ones concerning president’s membership to the party, re-organizaton of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), and abolishment of military justice.
The applications concerning HSYK elections started today (April 28). (NV/TK)
