Investigation into ‘Figen Yüksekdağ’ Postcard at HDP Stand in Edirne

An investigation has been launched into seven people who were at Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) referendum stand in Edirne on charge of “Promoting crime and criminal” due to the postcards of HDP Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ.

The seven people gave testimony in Edirne Security Branch Directorship, and rejected all accusations by stating that they exercised their freedom of expression.

Speaking to bianet, attorney Murat Arksak representing the seven said the accusations are unlawful, his clients were conducting election propaganda and this doesn’t constitute a crime.

Minute at the stand

According to information attorney Arksak gave to bianet, the police who came to the stand said they would “confiscate the leaflets on prosecution order”. They confiscated the election leaflets, postcards of HDP’s co-chairs, and wrote a minute down.

The seven people at the stand were summoned to the police station to testify.

The seven people went to the police station and testified to the prosecutor on April 13.

Arksak stated the police wrote the minute down for the post cards but confiscated other materials as well but in either way, the investigation is unlawful.

“It is seen that this practice is an attempt to prevent HDP’s electoral efforts”, Arksak added. (BK/TK)
