Van’s Muradiye district’s Co-Mayor Mehmet Ali Tunç from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) has been arrested.
Tunç was detained during a police raid on the municipality building on January 16. District’s sub-Governor Mehmet Fatih Çelikel was appointed as a trustee to the municipality.
According to a report by Fırat News Agency, 17 people detained along with Tunç were referred to court for arrest yesterday (January 25).
While 10 people were released on probation, Bahattin Karagüle, Doğan Başak, Halil İbrahim Güler, municipality staff Yemlihan Akkış and Ercan Dilmaç, DBP District Co-Chair Mehmet Kaplan were arrested along with Tunç.
The number of arrested co-mayors from the DBP is 77, the number of DBP-governed municipalities to which trustees were appointed is 58. (BK/TK)
