Following the polling of first seven articles, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th articles of the constitutional amendment draft have been approved in second tour in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly.
8th article has been approved with 339 yes votes against 138.
9th article has been approved with 341 yes votes against 137.
10th article has been approved with 350 yes votes against 136.
11th article has been approved with 342 yes votes against 135.
The content of the amendments
Article 8
The 8th article of the draft proposes an amendment in Article 104 of the Constitution which regulates the duties and authorities of the President and delegates' "executive power" to the President and gives the President the title "head of the state".
Article 9
The 9th article of the draft proposes an amendment in Article 105 of the Constitution and changes the expression "bring to justice due to treason" to "claiming that she/he has committed a crime".
Article 10
The 10th article of the draft proposes an amendment in Article 106 of the Constitution which regulates the representation of the President and organizes the appointment of the Vice Presidents to replace the Cabinet, their duties and responsibilities.
Article 11
The 11th article of the draft requires that the Parliament, with a three fifth majority, can pass a resolution to repeat the elections. The general elections of member of the Parliament and the presidential elections will be held together.
In the case that the Parliament decides to repeat the elections in the second term of the President, the President is allowed to run for the elections again.
The office term the Parliament members and the President will be five years. (BK/TK)
