3 Co-Mayors Detained in Bitlis

Hizan Co-Mayor İhsan Uğur, Mutki Co-Mayor Özcan Birlik and Yolalan Co-Mayor Felemez Aydın, all from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), have been detained in an operation launched in Bitlis.

In its statement, Bitlis Governorship stated that the three figures were arrested on charges of “Being a member of a terror organization”, “Carrying out activities and actions on behalf of a terror organization”, “Aiding and abating a terror organization”.

Searchers were conducted in their houses, it was stated.

Yesterday, Şırnak’s Kumçatı district Co-Mayor Mehmet Demir, Urfa’s Halfeti Co-Mayor Mustafa Bayram and Mardin’s Artuklu Co-Mayor Emin Irmak were arrested.

Furthermore, Urfa’s Viranşehir Co-Mayor Emrullah Cin was detained.

58 mayors arrested

The number of arrested DBP co-mayors and deputy co-mayors are imprisoned. 41 trustees have been appointed to DBP-governed municipalities. (NV/TK)
