In its session titled “EU-Turkey relations” organized in Strasbourg last night (November 22), the European Parliament (EP) discussed pausing the negotiations with Turkey.
Tendency of political groups in the EP was towards pausing the membership negotiations held between the European Union and Turkey on the ground that Turkey “strays away from the way of democratic and law state”.
The motion, which has been brought to agenda by Socialists and Democrats, the second biggest group in the EP, on Turkey will be voted tomorrow (November 24).
The EP is not authorized to freeze, suspend or stop the negotiations by itself.
The final decision is made by EU leaders. The EU leaders will convene in December. The EP decision might be influence EU’s decision. (AS/TK)
