Varto Municipality co-Mayor Sabite Ekinci from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) has been arrested in Muş.
Varto Municipality co-Mayors Sabite Ekinci and Hüseyin Güneş had been taken into custody in their apartments in a house raid on November 4. Police had searched the DBP Varto office.
Güneş was released after testifying in the police department, Ekinci on the other hand was arrested on claims of "being a member of a terrorist organisation", "damaging Varto Municipality", and "tender irregularity".
Ekinci reportedly was sent to Muş E-type Prison.
Including Ekinci, there are 33 co-Chair women in prison.
About Sabite Ekinci
She was born in 1970 in Varto. She graduated from Gazi University. In 1992, she started working as a teacher. She was elected co-Mayor to Varto Municipality in the elections on March 30, 2014. (ÇT/DG)
