Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mardin MP Mithat Sancar has said they will not participate in legislative activities but will use parliament’s democratic elements to the fullest.
About dropping of their deputyship and by-election possibility, HDP MP Sancar has said “If the AKP is making these calculations, it can plot towards dropping deputyships. They own every instrument of political power. Our only base is people”.
HDP announced that it halted its legislative activities in the parliament following the arrest of 9 HDP MPs including party’s two co-chairs.
“We will organize group and press meetings”
Speaking to bianet, Sancar explained why they took such a decision and what this decision means in practice:
“We are not totally withdrawing from the parliament. We will continue to use every field of democratic politics to the fullest. We will not attend general assembly studies. We will not be present in commission studies. We will not use tools such as parliamentary inquiry, summary of proceedings.
“For instance, we will organize group meetings on Tuesdays. We will turn these meetings into people platform, field of deliberation and venue of solidarity. Furthermore, we will organize press meetings at parliament group building”. (NV/TK)
